West Ham United Fan Advisory Board Statement: Director of Football

The supporter representatives on the West Ham United Fan Advisory Board (FAB) notes recent media speculation regarding the Club’s approach to its football leadership structure, specifically the potential appointment of a Director of Football.

At the FAB meeting on 26 February 2026, the Club clearly communicated that a new senior recruitment leadership role—effectively a Director of Football—would be introduced ahead of next season, irrespective of league status. This was understood by FAB members to represent a material evolution in the Club’s football governance and decision-making structure.

Following recent reporting suggesting that such an appointment may no longer be planned, the FAB sought clarification from the Club.

The Club has confirmed to the FAB that:

• The media reporting in question does not originate from a Club source and is considered speculative;
• The position communicated to the FAB on 26 February remains unchanged, namely that a Director of Football will be appointed at the end of this season;
• The Club does not intend to issue any further public clarification at this time.

Given the importance of this issue to supporters, the FAB believes it is essential to place this clarification on record.

The structure, governance, and accountability of football operations are critical to the Club’s long-term performance and credibility. Supporters are entitled to clear, consistent communication—particularly where explicit commitments have been made.

The FAB will continue to monitor this matter closely and will seek further clarity from the Club as appropriate to ensure that supporter interests are fully represented.
